October 15, 2008 raymondbond007 Leave a comment

Morley Independent councillors feels that the number cameras installed in the town are not enough to extend surveillance in areas including Corporation Street and Queensway although most of the Queen Street is covered by the surveillance system.

A report showed that most of the arrests had been made because of the CCTV camera footage but quiet a few suspects were often unable to be captured because of the limitations in reach by the 5 CCTV cameras in operation.

CCTV camera now at Anderson Park

September 11, 2008 raymondbond007 1 comment

It was suggested that a new CCTV camera be installed to cover both sides of the park to monitor along with the existing town CCTV system.

The community police officers should not be replaced by CCTV cameras, Coleraine Borough Council has heard.

This comment came as the meeting of the Leisure and Environment Committee met on Tuesday evening discussing about a plan to install a new CCTV camera to surveillance Anderson Park. The cost to ratepayers would be £5,000.

Teachers are doubtful about the CCTV cameras installed for surveillance in schools

August 20, 2008 raymondbond007 1 comment

Many primary and secondary teachers in the state and private schools across the UK are worried about hidden surveillance cameras in their schools.

According to the survey nearly 10% out of 249 primary & secondary school teachers say that CCTV is operating in toilets and around one quarter are worried about the hidden CCTV cameras installed in the school buildings.

The survey, conducted by the Association of Teachers and Lectures (ATL), found that most of the CCTV cameras in schools cover the grounds and entrances to building, although 85% of schools have CCTV in their buildings.

As per the survey more than half of the teachers (52.9%) say that they feel safe, the general view was that the surveillance cameras installed in the classroom are invasion of privacy and the teachers feel that they are being constantly watched and judged.

An ATL working group is looking into the use of CCTV in schools and colleges and will produce best practice guidance at the end of the year.

How about mobile CCTV cameras to surveillance litterbugs?

August 14, 2008 raymondbond007 1 comment

A hidden mobile CCTV camera unit has been proposed by a member of Morth Tipperary Co council to track down litterbugs and fight illegal dumping and other offences.

At last month’s meeting of the Roscrea-Templemore Electoral Area Committee, Cllr John Hogan recommended that the local authority could buy a mobile CCTV camera unit and move it between hidden locations every weekly.

Quoted:

Cllr Hogan said mobile CCTV cameras have been used with some success in other parts of the country. “No one knows they are there but everyone knows they are in the county,” he said, adding that the cameras are battery operated and can be programmed to switch themselves on only when someone passes.

Members welcomed Cllr Hogan’s proposal at last week’s meeting, where littering problems in the Roscrea area were discussed.

Covert anti-dumping cameras are currently used by Dublin City Council, so far this year the CCTV footage has secured 12 prosecutions.

The council estimates that at any one location four hidden mobile cameras will successfully capture about 10 per cent of dumping incidents happening.

CCTV Camera installed at Elgol finds protest by locals

July 15, 2008 raymondbond007 1 comment

The local people of the fishing village of Elgol claim that the surveillance society of modern Britain’s cities and town has no place in their island which consists of a tranquil community.

The locals find this place a very beautiful and crimeless, also no social disorder and things like that. This is a place where the tourists stand and admire the views across the water, dolphins, whales and sharks. Children often play on the beach and the fishing boats are unloaded here.

Having a CCTV camera installed may have a negative impact on the tourists visiting this place is what the locals think. In a place like Elgol with a peaceful community the disputes are settled within and the CCTV camera poses as an unwanted interference to the people. It has been only couple of weeks that the CCTV camera has been installed have managed to find petitions signed by about 80 villagers.
